Miłosz Wośko – the composer-in-residence of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin the 2014/2015 season

In the 2014/2015 artistic season, with the co-operation of the Institute of Music and Dance, the repertoire of the Szczecin Philharmonic will include compositions by Miłosz Wośko, the composer-in-residence of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin .

The “Composer-in-residence” programme conducted by the Institute of Music and Dance refers to a common practice in Europe and the world, consisting in linking artists with professional music institutions. It is aimed at professional orchestral or choral groups in Poland and composers who are 40 years old or younger.
Miłosz Wośko is a graduate of both the Jazz Institute of the Musical Academy in Katowice, with a specialisation in composition and arrangement, and the Fryderyk Chopin Musical Academy (now: Fryderyk Chopin University of Music) in Warsaw, where he graduated from sound engineering. He is a pianist, arranger, musical producer and keyboard musician. As an arranger for string orchestras he worked e.g. on Andrzej Smolik’s records “3” and “4” and Lora Szafran’s “The Secret of Life According to Leonard Cohen” („Sekrety Życia według Leonarda Cohena”). He was also the musical producer of that golden record. In 2014 he arranged SBB songs for the orchestra which performed during the last day of the “Jazz nad Odrą” festival in Wrocław. During recent years he has also presented his own orchestral compositions, mainly within the jazz section, and has arranged theme concerts, e.g. compositions by Krzysztof Komeda for grand piano, string quartet (Atom String Quartet) for the pianist Janusz Olejniczak, and compositions by Józef Skrzek for the “63 days of Rage” (“63 dni gniewu”) performance in celebration of the Warsaw Uprising anniversary. He co-produced the debut album of Mela Koteluk “Spadochron” which has been received two Fryderyki awards. He also composes music for animated, documentary and short films.

The first and all subsequent performances of Miłosz Ireneusz Wośko’s compositions take place and are co-financed as part of the “Composer-in-residence” programme conducted by the Institute of Music and Dance.
